Message from Principal Larkin

Blue Heron families,

February was filled with learning and fun here at Blue Heron! Teachers have been spending these professional development non student contact days engaging in the Science of Reading training from the Colorado Department of Education. Each module is approximately 8 hours of content and after each module, teachers implement this new learning into daily instructional practices. As a school this year, we have implemented Orton Gillingham in all K-5 classrooms; this methodology directly aligns with the Science of Reading and we have already seen growth in student learning. I am excited to see the positive student outcomes from engaging in this professional learning throughout the year. If you are interested in learning more about what our Blue Heron teachers are learning, you can see the description of each module here.

We recently learned that CMAS testing will occur this school year, we plan to begin these assessments in the end of March and complete them by the end of April. I will be sending more detailed information in the coming weeks to our 3rd-5th grade families. If you choose to opt your child out of CMAS testing this year, please email me directly at Annie.Larkin@jeffco.k12.co.us

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend, see you in March!

In Partnership,

Annie Larkin

News from the Art Room

CELEBRATING OUR ARTISTS
I am so proud of our Blue Heron students and the amazing artwork they are doing with all the obstacles we face trying to do art in-person. These are our top artists that went above and beyond. Click here to view the slide show!

ART STUDENT WINNERS
An art student winner is someone who shows integrity, owns their learning, are responsible and respectful. Click here to view the slide show! The wings were inspired by the artist, Kelsey Montague and the feathers were created by students and staff. You can find Kelsey's wings in downtown Littleton. Her hashtag is #whatliftsyou. Congratulations Blue Heron Students!

News from the Virtual Music Room

Hello Blue Heron families!

I have enjoyed "Zooming" in on Fridays to see the in-person kiddos.

We move, we learn rhythms, we listen and we're even learning

our notes on the bass and treble clef staff!

A HUGE thank you to Miss Garren (art) for securing a grant from Westerra Credit Union

so that all kids have headphones for Music Fridays!

News from PE

This month, Mr. Bierzychudek transformed the gymnasium into a human heart course! Students traveled through the heart, and learned about how each component worked. Students learned about how to keep their hearts healthy by eating right and exercising. They also learned about blood pressure, cholesterol, blood oxygenation, and so much more!
